  33. 1- What is AID?
  34.  
  35.      AID stands for Amiga Ideas Database, it's a project created for
  36. Amiga users, collecting and spreading IDEAS about Amiga software
  37. coming from users who need it but can't develope it. Requests can
  38. be posted to AID maintainer(s) and may become a part of the database,
  39. feedback (if any) coming from other users, regarding similar software
  40. already existing or willing to develope it, will be added to the 
  41. database as well.
  42.  
  43.      AID structure includes many archives (mostly in LHA format),
  44. released with conventional filenames:
  45.  
  46.      - AID-faq      : This FAQ text
  47.      - AID-docs     : The full AID documentation 
  48.                       (Amigaguide and txt format)
  49.      - AID-n        : The main AID request archive, where "n"
  50.                       is the release number
  51.      - AID-goals    : Archive containing software developed due to
  52.                       specific AID requests
  53.      - AID-store    : Comprehensive archive of all "old" AID requests 
  54.                       since the first release
  55.  
  56.      - AID-ware     : Will include any special software released 
  57.                       for use with AID archives, such as
  58.                       browsers, search tools and similar.
  59.

  61.      Databases will be released in several formats, filename extension
  62. identifies the class:
  63.  
  64.      - .txt         : Ascii textfile
  65.      - .guide       : Amigaguide browse-able archive 
  66.  
  67.      New standards, such as "KingFisher" database or other dedicated
  68. browsers will be added as soon as possible. Possible browsers and/or
  69. additional programs to use with AID databases will be available thru
  70. the AID Web homepage and other distribution sites.

  74. 2 - What's AID utility?
  75.  
  76.      AID will help good ideas meeting good programmers, as these two
  77. things not necessarily come together. AID structure is much less noisy
  78. than any Amiga related newsgroup, contains ONLY ideas for software and
  79. will store any request with no need to browse frequently large sets of
  80. datas, there's no risk of missing requests.

  113. 4 - Where can I get AID Files?
  114.  
  115.  
  116.      At  the  moment  AID-archive  is released as a rich-ascii file,
  117. following "kingfisher" standard for identifying records and fields.
  118.  
  119.      The  AID-archive  and  AID  download  sites  can  be found by WWW
  120. logging  into  AID  homepage  (http://www.zen.it/~lcs/aid.html), or by
  121. Amiga  related  newsgroups  and  possibly  by  Aminet sites. 
  122. A mailing list could be activated soon, it will depend on feedback.

  126. 5 - What kind of requests can I post to AID?
  127.  
  128.  
  129.      There are three main types of messages you can post to AID
  130. maintainers:
  131.  
  132. - Software Request: idea suggesting a software that it is supposed 
  133. NOT EXISTING in the Amiga PD/Shareware or even commercial
  134. software pool. Types of software include:
  135.   -conventional programs (executable)
  136.   -AmigaDOS/Arexx/Scala(tm) scripts
  137.   -Libraries and devices
  138.   -Any language source code
  139.   -etc
  140.  
  141. - Answer to request: If you're developing or plan to develope  a 
  142. software following an AID request, you should let us know, and your
  143. name will be included in the database
  144.  
  145. - Software  information:   If  an  AID  request  refers to an already
  146. EXISTING program you should let us know, specifying the program name
  147. and possible Internet download site(s).
  148.  
  149. NOTICE: Please avoid sending messages like ".. where can I find...?"
  150. ALWAYS  take  a  look  at  the  many  sources  and  indexes  of  Amiga
  151. PD/Commercial software before sending a request to AID, you will avoid
  152. us a lot of useless work. Thanks!.

  157. 6 - How can I post requests to AID?

  160.      These requests can be posted simply by filling in the respective
  161. forms. You can find these forms at the end of this document. Any other
  162. request type will take more time to be processed by archive
  163. maintainers.

  186. 7 - How can I know if my request has been accepted?

  189.      Generally AID maintainers will send a message back to the
  190. user, informing about the destiny of the posted request. 
  191.  
  192. Requests may be rejected if:
  193.  
  194. - There is existing PD/Shareware software with the same specifications
  195. of the request
  196.  
  197. - The request is too general and cannot help developing new software
  198.  
  199. - The request is not clearly explained
  200.  
  201. - Any other reason making the request difficult to understand
  202.

  205. 8 - Can I be useful to AID maintaining work?
  206.  
  207.  
  208.      By  sending  feedback  (see question 5) you can be very useful to
  209. the hard maintaining work needed by this project.  AID has no sense if
  210. it is not regularly updated.

  217. 9 - Is there a browser for the AID Database?
  218.  
  219.  
  220.      Actually  there  is  not  any dedicated AID browser, although AID
  221. standard  for  the  rich-ascii  format file follows the "Product-info"
  222. guidelines  used  in  Fred  Fish collections, and should be browsed by
  223. "Kingfisher" utility, available on Aminet and Fish collection.
  224.  
  225.      If you want to develope a dedicated browser, you're certainly
  226. very welcome! :)

  230. 10- Is AID freely redistributable?
  231.

  233.      AID archive and documentation are FULLY redistributable stuff,
  234. spreading them is appreciated very much, but PLEASE don't upload AID
  235. files  where they're already regularly updated by archive maintainers,
  236. such as Aminet sites, Amiga newsgroups and other official sites.

  243.      Feedback is not just welcome, it's absolutely necessary! :)

  265. should read the official full documentation (see question 3).
